    • In the 1970’s the designers of Porsche produced a classic chronograph aimed at the world of motor sport. Subsequently NATO expressed an interest in their timepiece to be issued to officers and select personnel. At the time the Royal Navy were also considering the purchase of Porsche chronographs, and a small batch were obtained for evaluation: these were marked “ROYAL NAVY” on the dial. A red circular symbol containing the letters “3H” was also printed on the dial. It stood for “Hydrogen 3”, identifying the use of the element Tritium. The watch exceeded the the Royal Navy requirements and also proved to be too expensive. Orders for the PD-Chronograph were however placed by the Swiss Army, the United Arab Emirates Air Force and the US 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing – the Flying Tigers. (above text taken from Z.M.
